On the 27th of June this year a, a lady who identified herself as Arianna Mary Recorded a video that depicted and pointed out the very poor sanitation that was accorded to the isolated Covid 19 patients at Masaka regional referral hospital.
The lady who said that she was a qualified nurse by profession was wholly disgraced when she was allocated a ward that was so dysfunctional and very poorly facilitated.
She pointed out that the ward was a mix of both the young and the elderly; “even children who can’t wear masks are isolated together with elderly patients” she said adding that it is completely inappropriate to the profession.
Much to note the asymptomatic nurse pointed out that the toilets that they could access were all stinky and could not flash the human waste as they were not powered with water.
She noted that some of the isolation centers were temporary camps with removable tents and surrounded by garbage.
The video has so far trended all over Uganda’s social media platforms.
She later on pointed out that the ministry has been donated with billions of shilling but can’t be seen to use.
In an official reply by the ministry of health, the document had nothing much to deny about but rather seemed an acknowledgement of receipt of the notice citing poor sanitation at the facility.
The ward captured in the video has a functional electrical and water system, contrary to what the patient alleges. However the hospital administration has pledge to intensify waste management to ensure good and proper sanitation at all times “ministry said in a statement.
“All patients and staff are given sufficient meals therefore it’s not correct that they are given meals in portions as claimed by the patient.” The ministry added.”
The ministry added that medical workers attend to the patients daily but however the report identifies the complainant as someone that has been giving headache to the hospital ever since she arrived.
The ministry however did not at all reply to the allegations that the toddlers and the elderly were mixed all together in the same ward.
Uganda Ministry of Health has so far received the largest sums of funding than any other institution in Uganda, donors and well wishers contributed cash that amounted to more than 6 billion Uganda shillings.
Contacts in the isolation centers in Mubende had earlier on also demonstrated their dissatisfaction of the inappropriate and insufficient treatment they are subjected to at the centers.
Tamale Mirundi former presidential press secretary has been put under intense fire for what he says are mafias embezzling sums of money from the Ministry of Health.
He also pointed out that some isolation centers do not have any patient but they are allocated a budget.
